Sunset Blvd
The movie, Sunset Blvd. was overall a decent movie. But at times I felt like I was just waiting for something to happen. In a way, the movie was slow moving. I like movies that are more fast paced. Everyone has a different view on movies. I feel like some of the scenes could have either been cut or shortened. When Joe got shot in the end, I was thinking, "Finally! Something besides dialogue!" The movie had a lot of dialogue. I feel like it could had some more movement. It was too wordy in my opinion. It almost needed some silence, some time to take in everything that was happening.

How can a movie in which you are "waiting for something to happen" need silence "to take in everything that was happening." ?
ReplyDeleteYou cannot really compare a movie made in 1950 with modern films, they're different beasts. It's sort of like saying that a silent movie from the 1920's wasn't good because it didn't have sound. 1950 was 62 years ago. You have to deal with the movie as it is, deal with it from within itself.
And there is no need to tell us something is your opinion - it's your blog, we know it is your opinion, and we know most things written by people are opinion unless facts are being quoted. If you think it's too wordy, then say that, and don't back off of that position by saying it's your opinion. You might get attacked - someone might say, "well, it is a dialog driven film," but at least you're not prematurely opening the door to get out of what you just said.
Does this all make sense?
I don't agree with your thoughts on the film, but that isn't the point. The point is how you present them, and how you justify them - that is what film criticism is about, not being right about what you think, but supporting what you think.
